East Cowes residents are calling for Town Mayor Tracy Reardon to stand down after she drunkenly grabbed a man’s beard and tried to steal his phone in an incident that unfolded at the local Conservative Club, Island Echo can exclusively reveal. Police were called at 01:39 last Friday (3rd November) to reports that a man in his 30s had been assaulted by a woman – known to be Mayor Reardon – inside the premises on Clarence Road. The 55-year-old, who was intoxicated at the time, grabbed the man’s beard and attempted to grab his phone. Island Echo understands that Tracy Reardon – who was unanimously elected to office back in January 2022 – proclaimed to those inside the club that “I am the Mayor of East Cowes” as her antics unfolded. She is also said to have used foul language. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 55-year-old – named locally as Mayor Tracy Reardon – has been dealt with by means of a community resolution in which she is required to write a letter of apology and complete a diversionary course. Island Echo understands that Mayor Reardon has been swiftly banned from the club but has also voluntarily revoked her membership, adding that she won’t enter the club ever again. East Cowes locals have called for her to resign from her post with some expressing upset that she may well be the centre of attention during this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday events, despite this embarrassing situation having now been made public. In an email seen by Island Echo, a spokesperson from the East Cowes Conservative Club Committee has said:
“We as a committee feel this is not appropriate behaviour for someone who represents our town at such a high level.”
Responding to Island Echo’s request for comment, Mayor Reardon has said:
“I have no comment at this time.”
