Calbourne’s traditional duck race raised in excess of £1,000 for the picture-postcard village’s recreation centre according to organisers of the ever-popular event held yesterday (Easter Sunday).
The duck race may have proved too popular this year as the 11:30 start had to be delayed for over 10 minutes due to the parking difficulties of the crowds that came.
Village residents and visitors purchased some 1,200 yellow ducks at £1 apiece.
Steve Mansfield, Chair of Calbourne Recreation Centre, told Island Echo:
“The duck race goes from strength to strength. It’s an extremely popular family event.
“It’s an excellent fundraiser for us, and all the proceeds go towards the upkeep of the recreation centre in the village.”
The winners of the 2023 Calbourne Duck Race were:
1 – Emily Hewitt
2 – Lily Weeks
3 – Peter Pontin
4 – Barbara Issacson
5/6 – Oatley Llewellyn
7 – Sheereen Satchell
8/9/10 – Karl, Amelia and Olivia McDonald

Fabulous to see the community coming together for a good cause
Polluting our waterways with plastic detritus. It’s a disgrace!
Looking at the photo they were all too busy on their phones taking pictures to be either enjoying it or worrying about plastic
