Cherry Godfrey, WRS Systems, Café Isola, and Bembridge C of E Primary School were amongst those baking up a treat this May in aid of Wessex Cancer Support. Wessex Cancer Support provides free, local and personalised emotional support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis. Their support centre in Lugley Street, Newport has a plethora of free offerings, including counselling and therapies, to Islanders affected by cancer. Their Daisy Bus service taking Isle of Wight patients to their hospital appointments on the mainland is also a popular and free community lifeline. Both the bus and support centre is solely funded through donations and fundraising efforts. Angie White, who has experienced Wessex Cancer Support firsthand, held her own Cakes for Cancer event at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Angie says:
“I have been overwhelmed by the support offered from friends, family, the Royal Victoria Yacht club and the Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. It has been hard to comprehend the unbelievable generosity of so many people. I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to them all. “Wessex Cancer Support provided me with support and understanding through practical holistic guidance during a very difficult time. The aim of my fundraising was to raise awareness of the treatments and support they provide so others will continue to benefit from the Newport support centre.”
Last week Angie White visited the Newport Centre to total up the takings with Regional Fundraising Manager, Laura Haytack. With the incredible efforts of all those who supported Angie, she raised an incredible £3,029.
