Cowes RNLI had 2 taskings this afternoon (Sunday) – the first was to reports of a windsurfer in difficulty and the second was in response to a boat taking on water.
They launched their Inshore Lifeboat at around 15:45 following reports of a possible person or windsurfer in difficulty off of the North coast of the Island.
Having arrived at Gurnard it was discovered that there was only 1 windsurfer in the area and that he did not require any assistance from the lifeboat crew. This was deemed a false alarm but called with good intent.
Subsequently, Cowes RNLI then returned back to the station before being immediately re-tasked to a vessel taking on water.
The boat was located near Beaulieu River and it transpired that it was also experiencing engine problems.
Cowes RNLI began escorting the vessel towards Itchen River where they were met by Hamble Lifeboat who then took over the escort.
A spokesperson for Cowes RNLI has said:
“Both of these shouts occurred in fairly rough weather.
