UPDATED: A water main has burst on Ashey Road in Ryde this morning (Wednesday) leaving hundreds of homes and businesses without running water.
The incident has occurred at the junction with Bettesworth Road and has resulted in water coming up through the carriageway.
At around 08:00 properties in the Haylands and Swanmore area reported losing supply altogether, whilst those further afield reported low pressure.
Today’s burst comes as engineers continue work to replace the water main that runs the entire length of Ashey Road following a series of bursts in previous years. The road is already closed to through traffic, but this incident will now force the partial closure of Bettsworth Road too.
UPDATE @ 10:50 – Southern Water have confirmed that a 10″ water main has burst.
A spokesperson has told Island Echo:
“We’re currently working to repair a burst on a 10” water main in Ashey Road, Ryde.
“Around 50 properties have been affected, but our teams are in the process of re-zoning the system to bring all affected customers back into supply as quickly as possible.
“We apologise to all affected customers and thank them for their understanding and patience whilst we work to fix the issue.”
Ryde Wellbeing Centre is unable to carry out blood tests today due to the lack of water. All other services at the centre on Pellhurst Road are running as normal.

A spokesperson has said:
“We’re pleased to say that repairs to the burst on the 10” main in Ashey Road are now completed and all customers are back in supply.
“Our investment in the mains replacement work along the length of Ashey Road continues, which will reduce bursts and improve water supply, to help prevent events like this happening in the future.
