Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat launched to assist an 8m RIB that had broken down in the Solent yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The vessel, with 5 crew on board, reported to Solent Coastguard that it had broken down south of No Mans Land Fort.
Volunteers from Bembridge RNLI were alerted at 07:15 and had the ‘Norman Harvey’ D-class lifeboat in the water by 07:28.
Although quite lumpy in the WSW Force 4 breeze, it did not take long for the crew to reach the RIB and establish a tow towards Bembridge Harbour.
Despite Low Water being at 19:08 (1.1m), Bembridge Lifeboat was able to make the Visitors Pontoon without undue difficulty and berth the RIB alongside safely.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were standing by to meet the casualty vessel and provide assistance at the harbour.
The ‘Norman Harvey’ was stood down and returned to Lane End by 20:30.
This incident was the 3rd of the evening for Bembridge CRT. The team were initially mobilised to a vessel aground at Wootton and then later tasked to another vessel aground at Ryde Sands.
