Brading Community Choir performed at the open cafe at St Mary’s Church, Brading on Saturday (6th July). Despite high winds and some showers, there was a very good turnout in the church hall, with a delicious array of cakes on sale, as well as a raffle and produce stall. The choir sang two sets, accompanied by their musical director, Mark Cox. Their programme included Streets of London, Angels, Three Little Birds, Wichita Lineman, as well as a trio of Vera Lynn 1940s songs. There was a rousing finale of a selection of tunes from The Jungle Book, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. The Community Choir have performed at several locations over the last few months, including the Donkey Sanctuary, the D-Day celebrations and beacon lighting ceremony on Culver Down, and have also entertained residents at care homes in Sandown. Recently, they have sung at a garden party arranged by Brading Methodist Church. Brading Community Choir’s next concerts involve the choir travelling to the far, far west of the Island in mid-July, to entertain residents at 2 Totland care homes. Later in August, the choir will be performing at Rylstone Bandstand in Shanklin.
Anyone wishing to to join the choir should come along to Brading Methodist church between 19:00 and 20:30 on a Tuesday evening. No previous musical knowledge is required, just a desire to sing.
