bombdisposalschoolsyaverland3UPDATED: The Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team have visited at least another 2 schools this afternoon (Wednesday) to safely dispose of a potentially explosive chemical.

The bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth are currently at Yaverland Beach, where a controlled explosion is to be carried out on chemical collected from Sandown Bay Academy and the Island Innovation Sixth Form college.

As first reported by Island Echo on Monday, the bomb squad visited the Isle of Wight College and Ryde School to collect a substance called Dinitrophenyl Hydrazine following a change in guidance on its safe storage from the Department for Education

The beach has been temporarily closed to members of the public.

UPDATE @ 15:30 – A controlled explosion has been successfully carried out and both the RN Bomb Disposal team and Police have left the scene.
