‘Message in a Bottle’ – a special boat with an Island connection that sailed the Atlantic Ocean – will be on show at the Southampton International Boat Show in September, marking the 1st time this remarkable boat has been in the UK.
Having travelled from Antwerp, whereupon its return to Belgium it will form part of Stormkop’s educational material, ‘Message in a Bottle’ will be displayed on the Bottle Boat Stage & Bar adjacent to the Guinness Bar at the Southampton show.
This is to publicise a new publication by Cowes-based Medina Publishing entitled ‘The Last Adventurer’, and this adventurer Fons Oerlemans now in his 86th year, will be at the show to promote the book and sign copies. The Last Adventurer, which Fons has co-produced with his wife Kee Arens, will also be available from Medina Bookshop for those unable to get to the show and Medina Bookshop will also be hosting other events in Cowes to promote their new publication.
This book tells the tales of a great seafarer encountering adventures on Atlantic crossings and much more.
Last seen in the skies above the show in 2015, on Saturday 16th September the Red Arrows will thrill audiences. On Saturday 23rd, another air display will be seen when at approximately 15:00 a World War II icon, the Hurricane, provides a stunning flypast. On Sunday 24th the Hurricane is joined by another British icon, the Spitfire. They fly past the show just after 11:30.
This year’s show charity is the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s seagrass restoration project, which seeks to see seagrass habitats in the Solent restored to their historical levels and for seagrass to be present in all locations that could support it. You can show your support by donating from £1 to £100 when you purchase your show tickets as part of the checkout process or donate at the show.
Running from 15th-24th September the show now offers VIP tickets (Quayside Club) as well as general entrance.
