Firefighters have responded to reports of a fire on board a boat on the River Medina this evening (Friday), with HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service now also involved in the incident.
3 appliances from Newport and Ryde were mobilised to Folly Lane, Whippingham at just before 18:55 to reports of a fire on board a vessel moored near to The Folly Inn public house.
Crews arrived on scene to discover that the fire had already been extinguished by the owner, who was onboard at the time.
However, concerns have been raised that the individual may have suffered smoke inhalation and therefore the assistance of HM Coastguard has now been requested.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat is launching from the mouth of the river to reach the vessel, which is on a mooring out of reach of dry land.
Volunteers lifeboat crew are expected to conduct a casualty assessment before the incident is closed.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance crew on scene at The Folly and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team has also been tasked.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has already stood down 2 appliances and an officer, with Newport’s wholetime pump and a secondary officer remaining in attendance at this time.
