B&M have confirmed that they will be opening their first store on the Isle of Wight in Newport High Street, taking over the former BHS building.
Island Echo revealed on Saturday that the discount variety retailer was planning to open on the Island and had begun recruitment. The news was well received by Islanders, who started to speculate as to its location.
It has now been confirmed that the store will be located on High Street and will open its doors on Wednesday 28th March at 09:00.
BHS closed in 2016 following the nationwide collapse of the company. The large retail space has been empty ever since.
A spokesperson for B&M has said:
“We’re feeling really positive about the creation of new jobs for local people and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.
“We are all really excited to start transforming the site into the Island’s very first B&M.”
