Residents disgruntled by the state of the roads in Lake have taken action – by planting flowers to highlight the size of a growing pothole. With Spring truly beginning to shine, Ranleigh Road – off Lake Hill – has been given a little spruce up today (Thursday) with the addition of some flora. The section of road has been deteriorating badly since 2019 and it has now reached the point that potholes have opened up, deep enough to pot a plant. Locals have been left amused by the sight, which has drawn attention to the sizable hole in the carriageway. Commenting on social media, 1 local resident has said:
“Our cars have to have an MOT to be driven on the roads, so should the Isle of Wight Council make sure the roads are safe for our cars to use the roads?”
Another says, tongue-in-cheek:
“That will confuse the council completely! They will have to arrange for the Parks Department to remove the flower bed, but only after planning permission has been sought, before Island Roads can come along with a bag of ‘pot hole repair’ mix!”
