Bembridge RNLI were tasked to assist the owner of a 27ft motor cruiser that had broken down in the America’s Cup spectator area off Horse Sand buoy yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
Whilst afloat following a demonstration with the Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 104 at the Americas Cup World Series event in Portsmouth, Bembridge Lifeboat the ‘ Alfred Albert Williams’ was tasked by Solent Coastguard at 13:40 to assist the crew of the motor cruiser, who had only purchased the vessel on Friday.
The lifeboat’s volunteer mechanic was transferred to the casualty vessel, however he was unable to resolve the fuel blockage that had been identified as the problem. Fortunately, the owner managed to make contact with the broker who he had bought the boat from who subsequently towed the vessel back to the Hamble.
Yesterday evening during the annual Sandown Carnival procession, HM Coastguard were alerted to a missing kayaker in Sandown Bay prompting the volunteer crew of Bembridge RNLI to be tasked to launch once again at around 19:00.
Just prior to launching the All Weather Lifeboat, the crew were stood down when the kayaker was located safely ashore.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to the incident.
