The banking group, who currently operate 4 branches across the Isle of Wight, will close the doors at Avenue Road in the West Wight on Friday 6th March 2015.
The two staff members working out of Freshwater have been consulted about the changes and will transfer to other branches on the Island.
A Barclays spokesperson has told Island Echo:
“The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices. In response to this change in customer behaviour we must evolve our business to meet their needs.
“Our records show that the use of this branch is very low compared with the other branches on the Island and that almost 70% of the customers are already using the other branches.
“In addition to the option of online, telephone and mobile banking customers can undertake everyday transactions at any Post Office with the closest being at Hooke Hill, Freshwater.
“We hope the range of alternatives including digital banking, alternative branches and Post Office access will help to ease the transition for our customers in Freshwater and if any customers have any concerns we would recommend they speak to a member of staff.”
The other Barclays branches on the Isle of Wight are:
- 102 St James Square, Newport
- 7 High Street, Ryde
- 53 High Street, Shanklin
