A Medina High School reunion for pupils who attended between 1980 and 1983 was held at The Castle Inn in Newport on Saturday (1st June). Those present at the reunion included TV producer Dominic Minghella, BBC Radio’s Graham White and former Police Superintendent of the Isle of Wight, Sarah Jackson. Some of the former students hadn’t seen each other for over 40 years. A buffet was provided, old photographs of time at the school went on display and an 80s eclectic playlist was danced to. New school badges were also given out to those in attendance. £200 was raised for Mountbatten in memory of Jim Whittington (father-in-law of 1 of the attendees), by generous donations.
“There was lots of chat, good humour, great memories and reminiscing from the 44 people who were in attendance during the 5 hour reunion. James Archer, the Headmaster at that time, was mentioned numerous times. “A fondness for the school was also witnessed from those who were there. Great memories of teachers, school uniform, sporting success, but mostly how fun it was and the happy times spent there. “The motto of the school was ‘Knowledge & Friendship’, which was definitely the case in the 1980s. Old friendships were rekindled and new friends made. “All in all, this was a really special evening spent with old friends.”
