A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary following an incident in Ryde earlier this morning (Saturday).
Police were called at 05:45 to reports of 2 men smashing the window of a fish and chip shop on George Street.
The men had left the area prior to the Police’s swift arrival, but a local area search soon located 1 of the suspects.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed to Island Echo that a 23-year-old from Newport, who was located on Church Lane, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. He remains in custody at this time.
A further area search was conducted for the second man, however he was not located.

Such a shame, this establishment have provided an excellent service since Lockdown

There are so many bad people out there.
The crime recently on the Island is getting worse.
The Council needs to invest in CCTV to prevent these types of incidents,
or do what they do in New York
You see loads of NYPD cars parked in certain areas (no police in them)
BUT A GREAT DETERRENT
The council HAVE invested in CCTV all over the Island, but then sacked all the staff who monitored them leaving an empty control room that will only be accessed after a crime to see if anything was recorded… You couldn’t make this stuff up!!
No they would rather invest in speed cameras. Park police cars in Ryde with no officers in them. Probably get nicked.

Trouble is people can make the usual crap jokes but there is now a cost to
the owner. He won’t be able to claim on his insurance as there will be an excess to pay
and his premiums will go up next year. Really funny for him.
Oh I’m sure the Codfather will be able to plaice an order for glass and they’ll skate on down there. So no need to get in a flounder about jokes, I’m positive the young snapper who caused the damage will pay for it as he was the sole person responsible.
