The iconic Priory Bay Hotel near St Helens has been bought for an undisclosed amount by Aria Resorts and will, in part, benefit from a £30million investment by the company on the Isle of Wight, it has been announced.

Up to 150 jobs are expected to be created across the Island as a result of Aria Resorts’ plans to invest in excess of £30million locally over the next 4 years.

Aria recently acquired 3 holiday parks – Rookley Country Park, St Helens Holiday Park and Colwell Bay – and is set to invest millions of pounds at each location, developing new facilities and improving existing ones as well as creating new lodges and places to eat.

Priory Bay Hotel is to benefit from a new spa and restaurant with aims to re-open the hotel in early 2019.

The somewhat controversial changes at Rookley Country Park are said to be designed to attract more families to the Isle of Wight, with 20 new Lakehouse premium lodges; 46 new caravans including premium and superior models, some with hot tubs; 30 newly-refurbished premium cottages, some with hot tubs; a refurbished restaurant and swimming pool and new children’s play area.

Edward Andrews, a Director of Aria Resorts, commented:

“Our aim is to build one of the UK’s leading, responsible holiday operators by investing millions of pounds into upgrading facilities on the Isle of Wight. The island is one of the finest places in Britain to take a holiday, with its stunning coastlines, wide range of festivals and a growing food scene. With this expansion, we will be creating many permanent jobs and contributing to the growth of the local economy.”

The enhancements are now underway, starting at Rookley Country Park. Aria Resorts will be ensuring the highest standards are met at the parks, including improvements in holiday home licences and new health and safety requirements.

Jobs to be created include managerial and sales positions, roles in food and beverage, housekeeping and administrative functions, as well as in entertainment and activities.
