A new Island business that will run fitness classes for people looking to keep fit and healthy both during and after their pregnancy is to launch in February.
Mumabuba Antenatal and Postnatal Fitness is run by Camilla Burton, a former CrossFit gym owner and coach of over 8 years.
With a pre and postnatal coaching certification under her belt, Camilla is also an advanced sport and exercise nutritional advisor and believes that keeping active during pregnancy helps aid positive physical and mental well-being.
Mums-to-be and new mums will learn how to move correctly and safely through functional movements and exercise, with classes tailored specifically to the needs of the group.
with classes specifically tailored to those whose attend.
Camilla told Island Echo:
“It wasn’t until after having my daughter though, that I fully understood how hard it is to get back on track with fitness when you don’t always have childcare, and you need to fit it around feeding/napping times, and trying to do some housework!
“Having looked across the Island, I couldn’t find any pre or post natal fitness classes – only yoga and pilates, and these don’t particularly work on our strength and lung fitness which we all need to get through pregnancy, labour and looking after a baby, so I decided I wanted to do further specialist training to be able to offer ladies the help and support that specialised exercise gives.”
Bookings for the next 6-week course can be made by emailing Camilla at [email protected].
The weekly timetable is:
- Monday 13:30 – 14:30 Antenatal
- Monday 14:30 – 15:30 Postnatal
- Thursday 11:30 – 12:30 Antenatal
- Thursday 12:30 – 13:30 Postnatal
The course can be booked as 1 session per week or 2 sessions per week, and each course follows the school term.
