Your annual waste and recycling booklet and collections calendar will be landing on your doormat soon, the Isle of Wight Council has said.
Islanders are being urged to keep an eye out for the handy guide which will be delivered in April. The booklets will arrive in an envelope marked with the Isle of Wight Council and Amey’s logos and will clearly state it contains important information about waste services.
Any households that do not receive a booklet by the start of May are advised to contact the council’s waste and recycling team by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01983 823777 to request a copy.
The guide contains full details on waste collections for your area, including:
- guides on what types of items should go in what waste bin/sack and introducing our new battery kerbside collection service;
- how to book free and paid for additional services, such as re-use collections and Collection Plus;
- details on the Island’s household waste recycling centres, and;
- guidance for businesses and holiday let owners requiring commercial waste collections.
A new addition this year is the battery collection service. The Council will now collect household batteries separately from your waste on your refuse week and take them for sorting and recycling – up to 90% of a typical battery can be recycled. To make use of the service, place household batteries in a clear sandwich bag only and place on top of your black bin only. This service is only available for standard household batteries.
Natasha Dix, the council’s strategic manager for contracts, waste and environment, said:
“I can’t say this enough – thank you to all our residents for really getting on-board with the reuse, reuse and recycle message, helping the Island to be in the top 25 per cent of recyclers in England.
“We could not have done it without you. And don’t forget, if you are having difficulty with your waste and recycling or want to know how you can recycle more, we will do our best to help you — just get in touch!”

Alternative versions of the booklets, including large print, text only, black and white and brail can be provided on request using the contact details above. The booklet is also available in different languages.
Anyone know if they still issue the large plastic recycling bags, and if so where from?
They don’t do them no more.
I was told to just use black bags,
as they all get sorted on site.
pity the council is not as on the ball with giving out the £150 Council Tax Rebate
Hopefully, the booklet will be printed on recycled paper, otherwise, it tends to make a mockery of what the council is trying to achieve!

Some people have nothing more to worry about then stupid little details.
Well done IW council, this booklet is very useful.
Has anything changed since the last one? If not, why does every household on the Island need one of these? Can’t they simply do announcements of any changes in the local press, online and on local radio?
Surely they should be saying – “we have created our handy waste and recycling guide for 2022. It is available to download or view from the councils website. This is in PDF form and can be printed directly from the site, if you require a paper copy.”

Second to those mismanaging the floating bridge this ‘waste’ department must be the most impotent, useless, ineffectual department this mostly useless council has within it. This self-congratulatory happy-clappy backslapping group would be better off doing something useful like getting the £150.00 refund to people in need. Not pushing rhetorical nonsense about waste, when little gets recycled anyway.
