In a bid to prevent the proposed bin strike from going ahead next week, Amey has made a last-minute pay offer to members of the GMB Union.
Amey has continued discussions with its employees with a view to minimising the planned disruption to Islanders’ waste and recycling services over the next few weeks – and potentially further down the line.
It has been confirmed this afternoon (Wednesday) that Amey has offered its employees a pay adjustment in addition to their 4.21% pay award dated April 2022, although the exact figure hasn’t been released.
It’s hoped that this offer will achieve an amicable resolution and avert the need for strike action – but GMB is yet to comment on the offer.
The Isle of Wight Council is working with Amey to make sure there is minimal impact to recycling and waste services across the Island should their workforce continue to pursue strike action on 13th June.

Just because we live on an island doesn’t mean that these people should be paid less than their counterparts living on the mainland they do the same work. I’m not happy about the problems this strike might cause but l will back them. Bring on the bonfires !!!
