Alverstone Shute has reopened to traffic following a week of disruption after a sewer burst, sending effluent and surface water into the River Yar.
The road was originally closed to allow DynoRod crews to tackle the leak on behalf of Southern Water on Tuesday 6th July, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Tankers were used to maintain normal service for residents and prevent further damage to the environment – but due to their use, the road had to remain closed for the safety of the workers.
Repair work is now complete and the road is passable for motorists.
