The Phoenix Choir’s penultimate concert of 2023 took place on Saturday 5th August at All Saints Church in Ryde.
It was well attended despite there being a weather warning in place for Storm Antoni! The appreciative audience enjoyed a wide range of songs from “Love Changes Everything” to “I Vow To Thee My Country”.
The soloists were Ian Attrill with ‘Georgia On My Mind’, Pat Attrill with ‘Amazing Grace My Chains Are Gone’, Jan Merwood with ‘Caledonia’ and Paul Stevens with ‘Anthem’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
The evening raised just under £1,200 to benefit All Saints Church Ryde, Holy Cross Church Binstead and St Peter’s Church Havenstreet.
The concert was originated by Reader Hilary Spurgeon, who unfortunately was very seriously ill and unable to attend herself.
However, her dream of a joint concert with the Ryde churches was detailed by speakers during the evening.
Volunteers from the 3 churches involved all worked together to take on the final organisation on her behalf and the event was a great success.
The final opportunity to attend a Phoenix Choir Concert this year is at St George’s Church Arreton on Saturday 30th September at 19:30.
