Southern Housing has been delivering engaging workshops as part of a project to boost residents’ health and digital skills across the Isle of Wight.
The workshops, supported by funding from the Isle of Wight Council’s Household Support Fund, has helped people to become healthier, more digitally included and give up smoking. The support fund has also been able to provide air fryers and food hampers for residents.
One of the interactive sessions, held at Ryde Village, involved residents learning energy-saving cooking techniques. They received recipe ideas for reducing food waste and discovered how air fryers can cut household energy bills compared to some conventional ovens.
To compliment this session, the project provided 57 residents with air fryers and fresh food hampers from Briddlesford Farm. The educational workshops, which also offered advice about accessing community support services, were delivered in partnership with The Footprint Trust.
Tracy Webster, Places and Community Partnerships Coordinator at Southern Housing, said:
“These workshops have made a real difference to our residents’ daily lives. We’ve seen people gain confidence in the kitchen, learn new ways to save money on their bills, and connect with support services they didn’t know existed. It’s been wonderful to see residents supporting each other.”

My friends rent went up by nearly £300 for a small 1bedroom flat, from £600 to £900 , things included in was a set gas bill all year despite not using heating in the summer , gardeners, plus the carers side that they have nothing to do with. New windows that they need to make up for , list is endless.
They ought to be ashamed. Heart attack in the making , meant to be a scheme to help people struggling instead it’s causing stress , worry and anger .

The ‘Isle of Wight Council’s Support Fund’ giving away air fryers and food hampers while Southern Housing takes the virtue -signalling credit? Nobody asked my permission. Keep your eyes open in local pubs and on Wightbay for cheap air fryers. More disgraceful waste of other people’s hard-earned.
Southern Housing can afford to hand out all this and make themselves look great by don’t have anything in their budget to put a shower into a single persons flat. A vulnerable adult who already struggles to pay their bills never mind adding on the cost of heating water to run a bath!! I agree with the above comment, they’re disgusting!!
Totally agree list my son aged 38 he developed lung problems after a southern left a leak in their roof go on for 6 my nths they didn’t realise the White dust coming down on the sofa ,babies buggy etc was Asbestos,the row of flats is called Asbestos row it’s even in the tile adhesive breaking up now from the originals nal tiling it’s been sent off and confirmed as high risk my support n died from two different types of Asthma related to contact with Asbestos and they refuse to re-home his wife and two young children who saw their dad drop dead in front of them in that tiny flat “air fryers” what price a life Southern?your about to find out!.oh and don’t even mention the Black mould from crappy fitting windows that needed replacing at least ten years ago!.
What a disgusting waste of money. Why should the people who live there and have plenty of money to waste anyway be given this stuff to sell or give to relatives. They certainly won’t be eating any more healthy than they would be otherwise. Id love to be wrong but having worked in this area for 30 years it’s most unlikely.
