AIR AMBULANCE CALLED TO RYDE INCIDENT

unionroadincidentryde2UPDATED: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to an ongoing incident in the heart of Ryde this evening (Thursday).

An ambulance, 2 rapid response paramedics and multiple Police units are in attendance at a block of flats on Union Road. They were called to the scene at just before 17:00.

The helicopter has circled the town and has now landed at Simeon Street rec near the seafront.

HEMS paramedics and doctors have been transported the short distance to the scene by Police.

hiowaaairambulancenighttimestockUPDATE @ 18:49 – 1 person has been transferred to the awaiting ambulance and is being conveyed to Simeon Street rec to be airlifted to a mainland hospital.

It is thought they were inside a property behind the flats on Union Road.

UPDATE @ 19:15 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has now taken off, 2 hours after arriving in Ryde.

It is thought the male casualty, aged in his late teens or early 20s, has been placed into an induced coma by doctors for the journey to Southampton General Hospital.

Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue a statement regarding the circumstances of this evening’s incident, however Police have now left the scene in Union Road.
