The Isle of Wight Council has been allocated a further £1,236,137 as part of the Government’s additional funding support for local authorities, helping to cover lost income during the pandemic and boost cash flow.
Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick confirmed allocations for individual councils earlier today (Thursday). The money comes from the £500million of additional funding for coronavirus-related spending pressures.
The funding will help councils in England continue to deliver crucial frontline services, support those most in need and meet new spending pressures so they can deliver for residents.
Over the last few months, the Government has worked closely with councils to understand their needs and provided more than £27 billion to help them, businesses in their area and their communities through the pandemic.
The Isle of Wight Council has been given an additional £10,277,565 overall; £5,015,960 in the first tranche, £4,025,468 in the second and now £1,236,137 in the third.
Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick MP has said:
“Councils are playing a vital role in our national fight against coronavirus, providing a lifeline for so many and supporting communities at a time when they need it most.
“That’s why we are giving them an extra £500 million – taking our total additional funding provided to £4.3 billion – and today I am setting out how this will be allocated to councils fairly based on the pressures they have told us they are facing.
“This comes on top of the co-payment scheme announced last week that will compensate councils for irrecoverable income losses from sales, fees and charges.”
Minister for Regional Growth and Local Government Simon Clarke MP has added:
“We’ve set out a comprehensive package of support for councils, including an unprecedented scheme to reimburse them for loss of income during the pandemic.
“This additional £500 million funding will be allocated to councils to support them to meet the spending pressures they are facing in their local area.”

Spending pressures my arse. We won’t see any benefit from that cash. More road works in the offing from the usual consultancy firm that pays themselves to do a very expensive survey to muck up the islands road system even more.
And holds secret meetings with the great and the good, only to decide that Island Roads’ broken promises of succes rate will not be disclosed, covered up even, to the people who pay huge amounts for the substandard service. Trying to get information about the whole business ‘twixt the IWCC and its relationship with Island Roads is like attempting to gain access to the secret and Sacred mysteries of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem!
Nice for the Council to have additional money which in the long run comes from the tax payer, who is YOU.
So we will be paying for this for many a year to come and for what?
Answers on a pin head please, there’s probably enough room on it.
Couldn’t agree more with you 2 guys , there’s people on this island who are really in need , the money the council milks out the government by pleading poverty don’t even know the meaning of the word.
The spending awt to be closer scrutinised by independents to actually see where it’s going ,not just internal audits
Excellent news! More money to be wasted on white spots on the pavement, when a shortfall of £10 million was announced, buying up lots of land to build luxury flats on while local families live in bed and breakfast establishments, and a few quid left over for ‘fact-finding’ expeditions to exotic foreign locations, which have absolutely no similarities to The Isle of Wight! Good for the IWCC, I’m sure they will use the money wisely, and for the benefit of all hard working tax payers.
Oh, goody goody, they’ll be able to hire even more consultants!
