Ability Dogs 4 Young People is gearing up for its biggest fundraising event of the year, the much-loved Gala Weekend, which returns this coming weekend (7th-8th June).
Open from 10:00 – 16:00 at the Charity’s Training Centre at Sandown Airport, entry and parking are free for all visitors.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with more stalls, more entertainment, and even more opportunities to meet the charity’s dedicated volunteers – and of course, their adorable puppies in training.
The Gala Weekend is the charity’s headline event on the Isle of Wight calendar, raising vital funds to help support people living with a range of physical and mental health challenges. All money raised will go towards providing trained Ability Dogs to those in need, without placing the financial burden of ownership on individuals or families.
A wide range of entertainment is lined up for both days. Visitors can look forward to demonstrations by the Ability Dogs team, aerial silks performances by Jaydene Lee Arts, and showcases by the Island’s Track-A-Dog team. Other community groups will also be taking part, offering an exciting programme throughout the weekend.
The ever-popular Fun Dog Show is back and expected to draw crowds once again. With different classes on each day – including Best Expression and Waggiest Tail – the competition promises plenty of laughs and memorable moments. Registration will take place on the day.
Family-friendly attractions will be in abundance, including:
- Toy and bottle tombolas
- Mystery boxes for dogs
- A raffle featuring high-value prizes
- Handmade craft stalls and a display of classic cars
- A dedicated Kids’ Zone with arts and crafts
- The return of the ‘Hunt the Boneo’ game
Food and refreshments will be available all day, with homemade cakes, ice cream, fries and other treats on offer to keep everyone fuelled.
Despite ongoing roadworks across parts of the Isle of Wight, the event remains easily accessible by both road and public transport. Organisers are encouraging families to plan ahead and enjoy a full day out in support of a vital local cause.
