Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were alerted to the discovery of abandoned belongings in Sandown this afternoon (Monday).
The first shout of the year for the Coastguard Officers saw them investigating the discovery of items near the shore at Yaverland.
With concerns that someone may be in difficulties in the water, initial investigations were carried out and a search was launched.
Further investigation led to confirmation that all persons were safe and well.
The incident, which got underway at 12:34, has been declared a false alarm with good intent.
