One of the Isle of Wight’s favourite campsites Retro Staycations has partnered up with the cool guys at American School Bus Glamping to site a Big Yellow School Bus for 2023.
Based at Hazelgrove Farm on Ashey Road in Ryde, the campsite provides vintage Airstream holidays, unique retro glamping as well as camping for tents, camper vans & motorhomes.
The newly-purchased Bus spent 20 years in service in Houston Schools District before being imported and beautifully converted and the owners have similar funky Buses in Suffolk and Somerset.
The owners wanted the traditional ‘Dog’Nose’ shaped american buses – or ‘Skoolies’ – to keep the iconic look and feel for an authentic experience.
Campsite owner Sarah Moss, has said:
“We wanted to add a further twist on our newly refurbished glamping site, and ‘Texas’ from America offers just that” says campsite owner Sarah Moss.
“We converted the School Bus and kitted it out with everything so families can just turn up, stay and play” explained American School Bus Glamping owner Andy Barton, “The Isle of Wight has always had a special place in my heart going back 40 years so I’m really pleased to team up with Sarah and Alex at Retro Staycations. The bus sleeps up to six with full kitchen, shower and loo, and we left the original drivers cab area so kids can have fun being the driver”.
‘Texas’ can be booked from just £160 at www.americanschoolbusglamping.com

The cost is eyewatering, cheaper to go abroad …
Alex Dyke will be raking it in. First the rehash of his tired old game show and now this. God forbid.
Does Alex Dyke own the bus ?
I think he’s part owner of the business if I remember rightly.
No, despite what mr happy qwerty thinks.
