The allocation of Isle of Wight primary school places has been announced this week with 98% of Island parents gaining a school of their choice.
Hundreds of children across the Island have been finding out which primary school they’ll be attending from September this year.
The Isle of Wight Council says that every child for which an application was submitted received a school place, with 95.3% of applications achieving a place at the first-choice school. 2.2% of applications were allocated a second choice school and just 0.3% allocated the third choice.
0.7% of applications were allocated a place at the nearest school with a free space, when the local authority was unable to meet any of their parent’s preferences.
Children with Education Health and Care Plans naming the school that can best meet their needs have also been allocated places as part of the main admissions round process. This accounts for the remaining 1.5% of offers.
A total of 1,087 children will be starting school in September – that’s 41 less than in 2021.
Councillor Debbie Andre, cabinet member for children’s services, education and skills, said:
“I’m really pleased to see that the vast majority of applicants gained a place at one of their preferred schools, with most getting their first choice and all children being offered a place.
