They dominated the charts in the 1990’s with a string of catchy anthems which have since become synonymous with the decade. Now British alternative rock band Republica will be bringing their unique blend of 90’s hit music to fans at this year’s Jack Up The Summer festival.

Formed in 1994 and famed for their iconic and fiery front woman, Saffron, the band rode the Brit-pop wave of female-fronted rock groups like Sleeper, Elastica, Garbage and Lush, injecting it with their self-dubbed “techno-pop, punk rock” sound. Between 1996 and 1999, Republica sold an incredible 3 million albums and clinched Top 5 slots in the UK, America and Europe with platinum sales across the globe, while their hit single ‘Ready to Go’ soared to Number One in many countries.

Despite having put down roots in the 90’s, Republica have never really been away, with their music becoming the soundtrack to the past few decades – ‘Ready to Go’ featured on more than 300 films and adverts and Wes Craven selected their hit single, ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ for the soundtrack to his hit movie ‘Scream’ and invited them to perform at its Hollywood premiere.

Lead singer Saffron said:

“The Isle of Wight has always been one of my favourite places. It has such a rich rock heritage so we are really happy to be coming over, plus we’ve heard great things about Jack Up The Summer and are thrilled to play their first official 90’s day!”

Organisers of Jack up the Summer have this week said:

“People love to see their favourite artists again and again but it’s also important to give them a chance to see bands they might not have experienced live since they were buying their albums the first time around. We really want to bring some fresh names to Jack Up and our 90’s day is enabling us to do just that.

“Republica will be appearing live on stage on Sunday 11th August alongside not one but two of the biggest boy bands of the 1990s – East 17 and 911 and will be mixing things up together with the many, many more great name acts still to be announced.”
