The Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has welcomed the announcement made by the Home Office on the 7% pay rise for police officers in England and Wales.
PCC Donna Jones has said:
“This pay rise, the highest in the public sector rises announced, recognises the sacrifices police officers make every day to keep us safe.
“Police officers have only had one pay rise in the last 5 years and with inflation and the cost of living increasing, it’s right and proper for police officers to be given this increase to reflect the incredibly difficult job they do.
“This increase will bring starting salaries for all new constables up to £28,551 which will no doubt help with maintaining the work force following the successful recruitment of 20,000 officers nationally, with an additional 600 for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight locally.
“As Police Commissioner, I have been working closely with Home Office leading up to this decision to ensure police officers are getting a fair deal, and in my national role APCC Chair, I will continue to be pressing for fair settlements for police officers, as well as police staff.”
The Home Office has said the Government will be part funding the pay rise and will be supporting forces to help cover the associated costs of the pay award.

Hopefully this will help with the dangerous old farts either being weird with kids all bad driving
Yes kev I agree with you for once the old farts need to be stopped
Hi Tony, what are you doing? I do not put these comments out for you to agree with me, I make these comments to get as many thumbs down as I can, my mummy thinks I am doing my homework at the moment and when I grow up I want to become a policeman and can drive my police car fast and get to ring the bell all on my own and wear my policeman’s hat. My teacher says if I work really hard I can have a lolly pop.
I rather have a big pot of weed with a old farts in prisons
Kev where is Bev
Hello Stuart, my mummy Bev says your mummy is very stupid like you and me are, I think you are more stupid than your mummy is. I wank a poo now.
See you in school, don’t forget your end-of-term present for the teacher, I got her flowers from the garden, mummy helped me pick them.
Has anyone seen my pecker
This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life and I’m not even kidding
I like chooo chooo trains
Oh dear here’s ‘Kev the idiot again spouting childish rubbish
This is going to exacerbate the doctors’ ire with the government (6%) and is likely to re-ignite the nurses’ (who got 5%)industrial action.
Or maybe the opposite. They may then see that their greedy claim for double that is not going to happen as the Police who risk THEIR lives, not just ‘another patient’ which can be hushed up, makes the medical people far less ‘worthy’
The police can’t even see a murder victim in a flat for two days or something. Doctors and health care professionals are just that, 24/7 and saving lives and weeding through all the idiots clogging up A&E most of the time! Not just doctors either, they deserve better pay because it’s a ‘ caring’ profession. You don’t switch that on and off. Anyway, anytime a ‘serious’ situation happens plods from the mainland turn up!
Doesn’t mention that prison officers too got the higher banding of 7% as their role is even harder as they deal with the convicted 24/7.
Harder how? They do need to go to hospital as well these prisoners you know. You can’t say that, each case is an entity of its own, across the board?! What do you know about it anyway, no grounds to make comparisons
They deal with things that you have no idea off behind those walls
Great news. As my old Dad used to point out: if u don’t pay coppers enough, you end up with bent coppers. Simples.
ZM: can you explain , then, why highly-paid senior policemen are also bent?
Maybe now they will finally remove the white Citroen Berlingo van that has been parked
in Ryde for over 5 months with NO MOT.
Its been left rotting outside 119 Great Preston Rd for months
Yet more proof there is no Law and Order on Island Roads.
More chance of building a bridge.
There is No Law and Order on the Island
Inflation – 7% = pay cut
Why settle for that?
Bigger wages = bigger pensions, more coppers leaving at 50 years old with huge pension pots!
Its a piece of Cake
Our police service is a total waste of revenue , fastest you’ll ever see them is going in the opposite direction to trouble ! Bloody useless !!
Are they for real!!! They don’t not need a pay rise!
PCC still no visible sign – evidence of more officers are on the island you said more were coming , when ?? but do see a few more Hobby Bobby’s on her rapid response push bike ..
But only part of it is being funded by central government. Guess where the rest will come from?
You know those police stations they have been re-opening?
Them.
