7 players from Sandown and Shanklin RFC (The Hurricanes) are tackling the 3 Peaks Challenge later this month to raise money for a charity aimed at preventing suicide in young people.
The magnificent 7 aim to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England’s Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, within 24 hours on 19th/20th May.
The team is taking on the challenge in aid of the charity Papyrus, which aims to prevent suicide in young people. The Hurries4Change players – Sam Tyson, Sam Rees, Sam Dawson, Tom Marriott, Rich Brownrigg, Ross Simpson and Will Baxandall – will be supported on their journey by Paul Tyson and Hurricanes coach Andrew Steward. They will travel up to Scotland by minibus (sponsored by The Way Forward) after crossing the Solent with their ferry transport sponsored by Wightlink.
Rugby Captain Sam Tyson says:
“Playing for Sandown and Shanklin has brought us all together and we’ve faced many challenges on the pitch.
“This is a new challenge for us as a team, and we’d like to help give back. Papyrus do really important work preventing youth suicide. and that’s an issue that is on the up in the UK.”
