Local community station Vectis Radio has received 6 nominations in 5 categories at the 2023 Community Radio Awards.
For the 3rd consecutive year, Vectis Radio has been nominated for Community Station of The Year.
The Vectis Radio 4ps Training School has received 2 nominations in the Community Impact Project of the Year: one for its work with young people and one for the work it does with Adult Learning; additionally, The Short Breaks Takeover show has been nominated in the Community Show of the Year category.
In the personal awards, Maggie Currie has been nominated in the Volunteer of the Year category, whilst Phil Norris received a nomination as Newcomer of the Year.
Phil said:
“Wow, I’ve never been nominated for anything in my life. Thank you to Vectis Radio for giving me a new life; all my dreams were ripped away from me a year ago when I was struck down with illness; I am now making new ones.”
Station Manager Ian commented:
“3 consecutive nominations for “Station of the Year” highlight our remarkable consistency. It’s an honour to broadcast on our beautiful Island and celebrate our team’s fantastic accomplishments.
“Regardless of the outcome in Newcastle, our standing in the radio industry speaks volumes about our dedication and effectiveness. We must be doing something right!”
Fellow Director Kelvin Currie has added:
“This is wonderful news, a testament to the hard work and dedication not only of the station management team, but to the presenters who keep our output fresh every day. Good luck to all the nominees and we’ll see you in Newcastle.”
The winners will be revealed in an evening ceremony in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on November 4, hosted alongside the annual UK Community Radio Network conference taking place in the daytime.
