Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was sexually assaulted in broad daylight just yards from a police station in Newport yesterday (Monday).
The 26-year-old victim was standing outside the Citizen’s Advice Bureau on the High Street when she was approached by a man who then sexually assaulted her. She managed to get away before speaking to 2 women in the street, both aged in their 20s, who said they had previously had an encounter with the same man.
The incident took place just yards from Newport Police Station between 11:40 and 11:50.
Officers would like to speak to the 2 women urgently as they may have information to assist police with their investigation.
Detective Sergeant John Walton said:
“We would urgently like to identify the two women who approached the victim after this incident as they may have valuable information to assist with our enquiry.
“Additionally, we would like to hear from any members of the public who witnessed the incident or who can provide us with any information that could help.”
Police have arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with the incident. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station.
