UPDATE @ 09:00 on Monday 4th December – The works have been delayed once more, this time until 11th December. They are scheduled to last a total of 4 days.
Roadworks on the main Shanklin to Ventnor road that were due to get underway this morning (Monday), resulting in lengthy diversions for motorists, have been pushed back again.
The closure of Church Road was due to come into force on 13th November but bad weather saw the scheme pushed back until 27th November. Island Roads pushed the work back again until today, but it has been confirmed that the closure will now start on Monday 11th December when they will begin reconstruction and strengthening of the carriageway. The around-the-clock closure is expected to be in place until Friday 15th December. Motorists will be diverted via Victoria Avenue, Whiteley Bank, Wroxall and Upper Ventnor in both directions. Southern Vectis’ Route 3 buses will divert from Trinity Church via St Boniface Road, Upper Ventnor, Wroxall, Whiteley Bank, Shanklin Road, Victoria Avenue to reach Shanklin High Street. This diversion will operate in both directions.
