With more than 90% of eligible Islanders having received the £150 energy rebate, the Isle of Wight Council is urging the remaining 5,000 households not to miss out.
The local authority is writing to those yet to benefit from the money, reminding them that the closing date is 9th September and giving them details of how to apply.
The scheme is administered by local councils and paid from central Government funds. Isle of Wight households have so far received a total of £7,031,250.
The rules of the scheme are that each eligible household receives one payment of £150.00 paid to the person named on the council tax bill. The letters sent out to people who pay by cash contain a unique code, enabling them to complete a short application online so payment can be made. The scheme also requires local councils to do fraud checking to ensure payments are made to the correct person.
Councillor Chris Jarman, Cabinet member for Strategic Finances said:
“Our message is simple – Don’t miss out! Households in council tax bands A to D are eligible for the £150 energy rebate and tens of thousands of Islanders have already received the payment. We know many people face huge difficulties with rising energy bills and that is why we are working hard to encourage households to apply for the support they are entitled to.
“No one should miss out. The worst case is that unclaimed funds return to central government.”
Households who have not yet applied for funding can also go to the council website: https://www.iow.gov.uk/Residents/Benefits-Council-Tax-and-Business-Rates/Council-Tax-Services/Council-Tax/Energy-rebate.
The local authority has also been given government funding for discretionary pay-outs to assist those not eligible for an energy rebate under the main scheme. This is for households in council tax bands E-H in receipt of local council tax support, housing benefit or universal credit.
We are still waiting. Told we had to provide evidence of a bank account, which we have, despite us already paying now by direct debit, whereas we used to pay cash at the Post office.
But the joke is they clearly have the evidence of the bank account as that is what we have been paying our council tax from for the last six months.

Same here – 3+ months from start to finish – absolutely stupid timewasting system. . I got my local councillor involved in the end and even then they missed me off a payment run which added another week

Nice to get it , but the clients that received it have probably p***ed up against wall and still get more by pleading some further hardship .
should not be given in cash so to speak it should be paid out direct to energy company on production of bill .
last years bill should be looked at as this payment is not an excuse to turn the stat up and think ah someone else will pay .
Everyone else will have to go without so to speak so all the benefit claiming people should have to do the same
I know you’re getting voted down but I do agree that it shouldn’t have been given as cash. Should have been a voucher redeemable against an energy bill. At least that way it would get used on what it was intended for.
Cash is not paid out. Do you think someone sits in County Hall with a big tin of £ to pay people who go in to claim. Really??!!
What CJ was commenting on was it should made out to the energy company for payment with the next bill. Straight into the bank account is the same as cash….

If you didn’t know it is 2022 and money in your bank account is as good as cash as most of us pay for goods by card.

Why either everyone get £150 or those on low income?. Just cause you live in band A -D does not mean you are poor and if in band E you are rich. Expect large % will spend on Domino’s or weed anyhow.
Why are only band A-D owners eligible for the payments. Band E and above still have the same or more bills but are being penalised for being prudent with unnecessary spending over the years. Thank god we are not under a Liebour government.
