A motorboat with 8 people and a dog onboard had to be towed into harbour by Yarmouth Lifeboat yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) following a machinery breakdown.
Solent Coastguard paged the volunteer lifeboat crew at 14:42 after receiving reports that a vessel with 4 adults, 4 children and a dog had broken down 1.5 nautical miles West of Yarmouth.
Within minutes the RNLI crew were alongside the casualty vessel and accessed the situation. A decision was made at first to pass over engine coolant in an attempt to get the casualty vessel back up and running and remedy the fault. However, this proved ineffective so a tow line to the casualty vessel was established.
The casualty vessel was towed into Yarmouth Harbour so that her crew could work on the engine in a safe environment and organise further help and assistance once moored to a pontoon.
The start of the return leg began at 15:16 and both the casualty vessel and Yarmouth Lifeboat returned ashore at 16:05 after fighting against the strong tide outside Yarmouth Harbour entrance.
