A 30-year-old woman has died after being run over by a car on a driveway in Newchurch yesterday (Tuesday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services rushed to an address in the rural village of Newchurch at around 16:30 yesterday afternoon. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene alongside multiple fire engines and ambulance crews.
Sadly, the life of the young woman could not be saved and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have confirmed that the woman was trapped between a Toyota Yaris and a fence.
Island Echo understands that the vehicle was put into gear and struck the pedestrian. Neighbours rushed to the property after hearing screams and assisted ahead of the arrival of emergency services.
Collision Investigators from the mainland arrived in Newchurch last night and carried out a forensic examination of the scene to piece together the devastating events.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 4.30pm following reports that a Toyota Yaris collided with a pedestrian, and sadly we can confirm the 30-year-old pedestrian died as a result of the collision.
“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“This incident took place on private property off the High Street and did not take place on a public road.
“Officers are investigating the full circumstances and enquiries remain ongoing at this time”.
