Police and HM Coastguard teams have responded to reports of a missing 3-year-old child on the beach at Sandown this afternoon (Sunday).
The alarm was raised shortly before 13:45 with no less than 9 Police cars and 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams – from Bembridge and Ventnor – rushing to the scene.
The young girl disappeared from sight near to Sandown Pier, prompting the large scale response.
An eagle eyed member of the public spotted the youngster, who has now been safely reunited with her family.
Search and rescue teams have stood down.

How’s it possible to lose a three year old? She’s just a baby so what was the parent’s doing at the time?????
And the hot sun on a beach isn’t a good thing for a three year old child, i just don’t understand some parent’s..
Parents. No apostraphe needed. Just because a word ends in an ‘s’ doesn’t mean it needs one.
To those voting down…. I just thought I’d be as judgemental and nasty as she was being. Seems there are lots of perfect people out there. I wonder how many who liked the vile post actually have kids. If they did they’d know how easy it is to look away for a second… and… well… it should not need to be explained. Seems lots of nasty scum like islandecho nowadays.
It’s pretty easy to lose a youngster turn around to put something in a bag or tend to another child and there off on a mission. Hate how people blame parents just be thankful that’s it’s all ok and the child is safe. You either tether your children like a dog or never go outside. Ffs
9 Police cars! Basically that left the rest of the island without cover then??? Glad the little girl was found safe and well. Her parents should keep a more watchful eye on her, it could have been so different!
Saw all the police cars racing through Newport one after the other. Anyone would have thought there was a mad man on the loose or serious incident occurring. Ridiculous
With the amount of paedophile’s released on the island I’m not surprised they used all resources!!
Quite right too, Mrs. Brown! So nice they rehouse a lot of the perverts on our lovely Island so that they are contained and close to their former place of residence at Parkhurst. Makes ’em feel at home, I suppose. I remember when I was a wee bit younger how thrilled my mother was when the Beast of Jersey was given a house, on the State of course, a few doors up from m’ granny. Ah! The Island of Charm, where nothing nasty happens…. Thank the Lord for those lucky enough to actually still be local and have a smallholding. We, under strict supervision and- quite rightly-legislation, may be armed.
Some people, were the parents too busy boozing in the sun than to keep watch on their kid. Ever heard of reigns for goodness sake.
Likely the parent(s) more interested in the benefits, the child allowance, child tax credits, and free home and cheaper council tax than taking proper care of their innocent vulnerable daughter.
Sadly even the thickest of people can have children, and get ‘paid’ for doing so, hence the growing amount of uncared for, and unwanted children.
IF it ‘cost’ not ‘earnt’ people to have a child, then only those who really wanted them, and those who cherish them would have them.
Now the thickest and most vile in society are usually are the ones with the most offspring, as they are ‘better off ‘avin kids’.
Hence why we now have the third world too up sitcks to jump on the band wagon by simply mating lots to secure a good lifestyle and a home in the UK.
God help the next unwanted generation born from the first unwanted, as they reach puberty.
Are you stupid! Such ignorant comments, Unbelievable!
Seems the truth is very often painful. Stupid comments are just laughed at or best ignored. Big difference.
You have no idea what the situation is for these people. The nasty vile rant you have gone on says more about you and your twisted thought process. What a horrible way to represent yourself.
Stupidity knows no depths.
I’ll show these comments back to the nice EU citizens your council has pledged to re-home.
Jesus what a awfully judgemental, bitter, ignorant, and rude individual you are.
What horrible comments you have no idea what happened so shut up
As YOU seem more enlightened, please share with us the information on this then, so we can recommend the parent(s) in for Parents of the year competition.
Thank you for your comment Suzie,i take it you must come from Sandown as you cannot spell.
I not i… Lol
Oh do enlighten me on what I have mis-spelled. For your info NO not an Islander.
Glad she was found.
Can’t believe the hateful comments. Anyone with kids will know how quickly they can wonder out of sight.
No excuse! The child is only three, the so called parents should be more aware…
I’ve been at the the beach today with my family and I tell you what I never ever take an eye of my kids!
No excuse especially a 3 yr old
I’m glad all is ok but those parents want to think twice in future!
Perhaps social services should be made aware!!!!!!!!!!!
A responsible person would have a 3 year by their hand or child reins. Oh for the spelling Police REINS!!!
One imagines the ‘parents’ KNEW exactly where their phones were though. Might help if they looked at real life not a screen for a while.
I saw the grandmother, and daughter searching for her, they were not drunk and looked like a respectable family. They were calling out the little girls name name and were frantically looking for her. Sorry but sometimes these things happen. Your only to turn your back for a second! Facts before slandering
As a responsible parent and grandmother I can tell all those who think you have to be drinking or otherwise to loose a child this is not the case . In a crowded place it takes just one second to loose a child. On a beach you dont keep them shackled to you all day. I lost my grandson a couple of years ago when I took my eyes off him momentarily andhe had wandered down the beach. he was found within a minute but the fear and panic was awful just as it w as when I lost his mother as a child in a supermarket when she was small and countless others have similar experiences so unless you have children or the are the one perfect person on this planet don’t judge !!!
# BE KIND
Lol all that police for a missing 3 year old
