A road traffic collision involving 2 vehicles has resulted in the main Ashey to the Downs Road being partially blocked as rush-hour approaches this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred between East Ashey Lane and the junction for Brading Downs Road.
A black VW Golf and a Kia Taxi have collided resulting in the Golf coming to rest on the verge lining the carriageway.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance with a Rapid Response Vehicle on the scene although it is thought that no one has been seriously injured.
A member of the public is currently directing traffic over Brading Down from Newport direction with the road remaining open, albeit slow-moving, from Ryde.
UPDATED: The vehicles have now been moved and the road has been cleared of any debris. Subsequently, Ashey Road has reopened to traffic in both directions.

oops
Cars travel way too fast around that area. When are drivers on the island going to realise, country lanes and speed don’t mix. Slow down.
They mix fine if you can drive.. its old age and lack of concentration thats the problem
Exactly right, it’s the slow and elderly drivers that don’t look properly at junctions or cannot see properly that cause most the problems.
Old lady from Sandown:
Really annoys me that some folk quick to blame slow and elderly drivers without knowing facts!
You will be OLD one day and then you might have to eat your words!!
What an arsey judgmental thing to say! Ok, the lack of concentration is a good point but DO NOT point the finger at the elderly.
Not the jumping hedge syndrome again!
There is a tradition amongst the island’s ‘accidenteer’ community to flip their cars onto their sides, or their rooves if going for gold. This is a very poor example of what is fast becoming a popular sport.
Probley Ian moery pised up agan
Again The shit police not turning up and letting the GENERAL PUBLIC do the Job of the local police. Just like they didn’t turn out when my Granddaughter hit a fallen tree at 6am on a unlit road in Haylands
Pathetic.
Dont be so harsh. They are busy quizzing Nigerians.
Likely finding them a top Hotel of their choosing
The Nigerians won, they’re here, probably to stay
🙂 Probably still one looking through binoculars on Cowleaze too!
So when you need them again and they “turn up” bet you won’t say this to their face lol
The police are not “shit” people like you and your vile mouths are, nothing nice to say ? Keep the trap shut.
The problem all over the island is speed I think new drivers should be limited to a certain engine size because at the moment there’s nothing stopping them from passing the test then the next day driving a 3.0lt car when they’ve never experienced that sort of power. Also anyone that causes a accident should be made to take their test again
Excellent idea
Good idea, But why is it legal to sell a vehicle that can exceed the legal speed limit ?
Good question..
Because they are going to a track day or Germany next week
Apart from the insurance prices…..
I am of course assuming they have insurance
Quite a few countries do this. But you don’t need 200BHP to crash a car. But yes some good suggestions that I think most people would agree. Big business would never allow government to pass such rules. They need the youngsters to dream of owning a Focus ST or Audi RST thing….
What we need is a cultural change where owning a car is viewed as an inconvenience and not a necessity. But that requires a government that is for the people and not for the corporations. :/ Will not happen in my life time. 🙁
People like Kenneth Higham always want to divert attention away from crap drivers when their families are involved in an accident.
He is also part of the problem. I believe he was charged with assault by beating of an emergency service worker https://www.islandecho.co.uk/latest-cases-at-the-isle-of-wight-magistrates-court-20th-november-24th-november/
We can slag each other off when giving our comments but in reality we have a total lack of policing on the island roads, it’s a free for all and most drivers know it….
Yes lack of police people drive like twats
They should make the driving test HARDER, not easier… Plus make the driving licence only last 10 years, then every person has to pay and do a new test. The government will earn more money, drivers will have more knowledge on the new road layouts and latest signs, hopefully a better standard of driving.
Plus if have an accident, within a year of test, must take another test. Not just computer dummy test, proper test !
I have thought for a long time that the Driving Test should include a Psychiatric examination as a major element.
When my daughter learnt to drive she was constantly told she had to get up to the speed limit. Along Ashey it is 40 mph in the most part then out of the limit. Yet in parts you cannot pass one another if a lorry is coming the other way! Should it be 40 mph+
Ashey is a very very narrow and dangerous road, unfortunately lorry and van drivers don’t give a dam if they hit you because they are safe in larger vehicles.
