Islanders can expect a sunny and pleasantly warm week with blue skies all around – but there are some early signs of very cold weather heading our way in April.
Local forecasters IW Met Service – the official weather forecasters of Island Echo – say that the Isle of Wight will continue to see the first true taste of Spring this week, with fine and sunny weather staying put until the weekend when somewhat cooler weather moves in.
Away from the windward coasts it will be warm over the coming days, but those on the Eastern and Southern coasts can expect things to feel a tad cooler at times as the wind blows from the still rather chilly sea.
The warm weather we are seeing is all down to a large area of high pressure out to the East, pushing up higher temperatures from the continent. The high pressure will hang around all week, only shifting slightly to the West as time goes on.
Early models are beginning to show a cold front moving in later this month and into early April, with the potential for some snowy conditions. It’s too early to accurately forecast the snow risk, but things look set to become much colder again – a stark contrast to the Spring sunshine being seen this week.
4-Day Forecast for the Isle of Wight
Today will be another fine day across the Island with clear, sunny skies with a light to moderate southeasterly breeze. Again it will feel pleasantly warm away from windward coasts with temperatures of 16-17c fairly widepsread, although closer to 11c in the far East and South.
Tomorrow will be another sunny day with light to moderate breezes and temperatures again into the mid-teens, possibly as high as 17c in more Western and Northwestern parts.
Thursday will be much the same as Wednesday with fine sunny weather and perhaps a degree or 2 warmer, however, the far South and East will still feel chilly with the breeze straight off the sea.
Temperatures as high as 17c or 18c are possible in the far west and northwest but closer to 11c or 12c in the far South and East.
Friday will be another fine, sunny and pleasantly warm day, but again feeling cooler in the far East and South. A temperature of 16c or 17c is likely across most of the Island but around 12c in the far East.
Towards the weekend you can expect to see a gradual change to colder and somewhat cloudier conditions, although it does look like remaining mostly dry.
Mention the ‘snow’ word and panic will begin.
