Police issued a total of 184 postal requisitions to motorists who ignored a temporary one-way system during the troublesome closure of Horsebridge Hill earlier this year, it can be revealed.
The main road between Newport and Cowes was shut for around 6 weeks between May and July to allow junction works and utility installation linked to the Three Oaks housing development.
As part of the closure, traffic was restricted to one-way only in the Cowes to Newport direction. Despite clear signage, a significant number of drivers chose to contravene the no-entry signs by travelling in the opposite direction.
During the closure period, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary issuee 184 postal requisitions for offences identified.
Island Echo understands that some motorists went as far as covering their number plates in an attempt to avoid detection.
In response to a Freedom of Information request seeking further details of the offences, the force said the data was not in a retrievable format and that compiling it would cost more than the limit set under the FOI scheme of £450.
It remains unclear how many of the 184 postal requisitions will ultimately lead to appearances in court.
This is more proof that many Numpty motorists on the island
do not respect law and order on island roads.
The same can be said for speeding, jumping red lights,
driving whilst using their mobile phones, parking on pavements
and parking on Double Yellow Lines.
I have never seen such a lawless place when it comes to
Traffic rules.
I would like to see more traffic Police on the island and
speed Camera’s and cameras monitoring roads.
Majority of these lawless motorists registration plates would have
been recorded.
Well done those people! These roadworks were a disgraceful abuse of power by the IOW Council and Island Roads. The development should NEVER have been given planning permission when it so impacted tax payers road user’s right to travel

For once I totally agree with you. The Island is becoming lawless and really needs more police and magistrates and judges to implement heavy fines, bans and even have vehicles crushed. Maybe then they will get the message.

The only advice is do not ignore the letter asking for the drivers details, it will turn a fixed penalty + points into a court appearance for the cars owner resulting a massive fine + points.
What on earth is a ‘postal requisition ‘? Do they mean Notices of Intended Prosecution? An NOIP is a legal requirement in such circumstances. A postal requisition means nothing.
Island roads need to sort their sh#t out. Constant roadworks and the same roads closed again and again. People are getting p#ssed off with, me included. Just get the fuck#n work done ffs
