A 23-year-old woman from Ryde who crashed into a parked car whilst more than twice the drink drive limit has been banned from the roads for 17 months.
Ella Furnell, 23, of Adelaide Place in Ryde admitted drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 12th November).
As first reported by Island Echo, on the evening of 26th October Police were alerted to a collision on Great Preston Road near the junction with Carlton Road. At the scene, a silver Ford Fiesta had collided with another vehicle – a parked Ford Galaxy.
Officers detained Furnell who was then asked to complete a roadside breath test which returned a positive result of 79 – more than 2x the legal limit.
Magistrates handed Furnell a 17-month driving ban and fined her £120. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.

Pathetic sentence ..
Far too lenient, needs banging up.
£120 fine for driving with twice the legal limit of alcohol? hy not just let her off completely? This demonstrates the extent to which the day of the lay bench is passed. This sort of unduly lenient sentencing is an outrage to public decency. If Magistrates canot be trusted to sentence properly then all courts should have qualified judges – and I say that as a former Magistrate who spent 15 years on the bench.
