The 10th anniversary of the popular Dash and Splash event saw 100 participants take on the 5K challenge from Shanklin Rowing Club to Yaverland on Saturday (23rd August), raising more than £1,400 for Aspire Ryde.
Despite blustery conditions, runners enjoyed a clear route along the shoreline thanks to low tides at 10:30. While some still ended up with wet feet, the quieter beaches meant there was no need to navigate around holiday crowds.
The event, first launched a decade ago by Australian volunteer Frederick Fisher, continues to raise funds for the work of Aspire on the Isle of Wight.
Organisers have thanked the volunteer marshals who guided runners along the course, with some braving the waves themselves. Raynet provided communication support and Wight Event First Aid ensured safety throughout the run. Sponsors included Choice Carpet Lake, GP Sports, Shanklin and Sandown Rowing Club, Yaverland Sailing Club and Shanklin Rotary, who also supplied medals. Water was kindly donated by Tesco Ryde.
The charity has confirmed that over £1,400 was raised on the day, with funds supporting Aspire’s community work across the Island.
Organisers have thanked everyone who took part and say they look forward to welcoming runners back for the next Dash and Splash in 2026.
