Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor assisted the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service with rescuing a 10-year-old boy with suspected spinal injuries yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
The 2 teams were called to Smuggler’s Haven near Luccombe at around 16:00 to assist in moving the injured child from a heavily wooded area to the awaiting ambulance. He managed to hurt himself after falling from a swing.
With the assistance of a pulley system, the casualty was extricated through the woodland – a distance of around 200m.
Smuggler’s Haven is located in the remote area of Devils Chimney, between Shanklin and Ventnor.
On the other side of the Island… The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team assisted in the rescue of a 66-year-old woman from Fort Victoria.
The lady fell in the hard-to-reach location whilst out walking, prompting emergency services to be called in shortly before 17:00.
Coastguard officers placed the lady on a stretcher and carried her to the awaiting ambulance at Norton Grange.
