Island fire crews are currently tackling a fire onboard a boat at an East Cowes boatyard this afternoon (Tuesday).
Crews from Newport, Ryde and East Cowes were called to the scene on Clarence Boatyard at around 15:12 after receiving reports of a fire inside a boat in a storage shed.
At the scene, firefighters have surrounded the fire and the incident is now under control.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have told Island Echo that no additional resources are needed at this time.
UPDATE @ 17:15 – 2 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reels were used during the incident.
A battery in thermal runaway was cooled and removed from the vessel and submerged in a water tank.
Monitoring will be carried out for 36 hours.
