UPDATED: Firefighters are tackling a car fire on George Street in Ryde this evening (Wednesday).
1 appliance from Ryde Fire Station was mobilised to the scene near the junction with Cross Street at 18:45 following a 999 call from a member of the public.
The single crew have used COBRA to penetrate into the engine bay of the Land Rover Discovery and are working to extinguish the fire.
The vehicle’s owners have been made aware of the incident.
George Street is currently blocked to all traffic.
UPDATE @ 19:08 – The small fire has been successfully extinguished using COBRA and a single hose reel., however the vehicle has sustained significant damage.
George Street has now reopened.
