Islanders are being encouraged to head down to their local Grace’s Bakery this National Doughnut Week to try out some tasty new flavours, all while helping to raise money for a good cause.
After raising over £1,000 for the Isle of Wight Alzheimer Café last year through their Isle of Wight Doughnut sales, the team at Grace’s are excited to see what they can achieve by joining bakeries all over the country in raising money for The Children’s Trust.
To celebrate National Doughnut Week (7th-15th May), the bakers at Grace’s have developed a special menu with new doughnut flavours to try each day. The flavours will include Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, Lotus Biscoff, Vegan Oreo Crumble plus many more!
The special doughnuts are available to buy at all 5 of Grace’s shops: High Street Ryde, High Street Newport, Pyle Street Newport, The Quay Yarmouth and Regent Street Shanklin.
There will be free tasters each day and the most popular doughnut among customers will become a permanent offering!
Grace’s will donate 15p from every doughnut sold during the week to charity and will also be collecting change donations in their shops too. Throughout the week there will also be discounts, special offers and competitions to win special prizes.
National Doughnut Week couldn’t be more perfectly timed for the local family bakery. This month Channel 4 will be launching a special series called ‘Best of British by the Sea’ which will feature Ainsley Harriet and Grace Dent trying out an Isle of Wight Doughnut from Grace’s.
Some food historians believe that the Island may have been the first place in the UK to make doughnuts as the recipe dates back to 1845.
Sarah Redrup, daughter of the owners said:
“We are so excited to see the Isle of Wight represented nationally on TV as the foodie destination that it is. There are so many amazing food businesses here. Ainsley and Grace were lovely to film with, Ainsley even enjoyed taking a big bite out of a Belgian Bun after the cameras stopped rolling!”
It is the bakery’s first year taking part in National Doughnut Week and they hope that their customers will enjoy taste testing their new creations.
Sarah adds:
“We hope the week will be a success, any amount of money that we raise will make a difference to The Children’s Trust especially when lots of charities have found it hard during the pandemic to raise money through their usual means. We hope that the people of the Island will have a bit of fun with us this week while eating some sweet treats!”.
