Firefighters have extinguished a small fire in amongst woodland at Medina Arboretum this evening (Tuesday).
Youths have been blamed for starting the fire – the second such incident in the past week.
1 appliance from Newport was sent to the scene at 20:17 with the single crew quickly locating and extinguished the camp fire.
The incident was brought to a close just 20 minutes later.
A spokesperson for Newport Green Watch has said:
“We have just returned from dealing with a fire set in public woodlands in Newport.
“With extremely dry conditions at the moment, these fires can easily spread and cause a huge risk. Please think before lighting a fire.”

Horrible little shits
Sadly most kid are now days.
Let’s hope life gets them nothing but the misery they love to inflict on others.
Sadly unlikely. They will be getting the most dim girls pregnant, the first to gain a council flat, upgraded as several kids arrive to a new house on a brand new estate, fully insulated all energy saving devices, and they will still not pay the rent or c tax, and smash it up, and have it all repaired by others who have to pay their own way in life and taxes to keep this filth and its numerous clones forever more.
Hopefully these ferals are caught.
They should be highly fined & the parents should also fined for not keeping kids under control.
Seem like the fire starters are increasing & will escalate.
They were there with the fire brigade and were fully compliant with the advice given by the fire brigade.
This wasn’t a deliberate attempt at destroying the arboretum. They were being daft kids sat chilling around a camp fire. Lessons learnt no harm done this time.
