YOUNG BOY KNOCKED DOWN IN RYDE COLLISION

youngboycollisionhaylands3UPDATED WITH VIDEO: A young boy has been knocked down by a motorcycle in a collision on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Monday).

Emergency services were called to Upton Road in Haylands at around 08:25 following reports that a young school boy, aged around 10-years-old, had been involved in a pedestrian collision with a scooter outside the former Lake Huron public house.

Police and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including a rapid response paramedic, are currently in attendance at the scene between Bettsworth Road and Grenville Drive.

youngboycollisionhaylands4The road is closed in both directions with motorists being diverted via Bettsworth Road, Wrexham Avenue and Grenville Drive.

The extent of the boy’s injuries are currently unknown, however it is understood he has suffered head injuries.

UPDATE @ 09:22 – The child has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport by land ambulance this morning, although his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road remains closed.

UPDATE @ 10:45 – The road has now reopened fully in both directions.
